This large retrospective review described the microbiological spectrum and antibiotic sensitivities of organisms causing endophthalmitis in public hospitals across the state of Queensland, Australia, over 15 years. The authors confirm that no single antibiotic can adequately cover all possible organisms causing endophthalmitis, and that the current recommendation for empirical treatment with intravitreal vancomycin and ceftazidime for suspected bacterial endophthalmitis appears appropriate. If fungal endophthalmitis is suspected, they recommend the empirical use of intravitreal voriconazole to cover amphotericin B-resistant organisms. British Journal of Ophthalmology, November 2014
